LOS ANGELES (AP)-Los Angeles Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni came Wednesday after less than two seasons at work.
Team spokesman John Black confirmed D ' Antonis resignation, ending short term of the Lakers fourth coach in less than three years.
D'Antoni went 67-87 after the takeover of the Lakers early in the season 2012-13. He replaced the fired Mike Brown, only 71 games to 11-time NBA Champion coach to replace Phil Jackson took.
The injury of plagued Lakers were 27-55 this season their worst campaign in more than 50 years. With Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol missing large chunks of the season the playoffs missed only for the third time in 38 years Los Angeles.
"Given the circumstances, I know not that someone would have a better job than Mike the past has two seasons," Mitch Kupchak said Lakers Executive Director. "On behalf of the Lakers, thanks Mike for the work ethic, professionalism and positive attitude, that he every day to the team brought. Good luck to him."
The 62-year-old D'Antoni had one year on his contract, but wanted to get the Lakers, his option year for 2015-16 have any prospect of success. The Lakers refused to D ' Antonis resignation apparently.
A phone message left for D'Antoni was not immediately returned.
D'Antoni coached Nash in Phoenix to get two of the Western Conference finals, also the Sun and the Knicks before he much less success in New York.
D'Antoni's seemed an odd match from the outset with the aging, ball dominating Bryant and the Lakers signature up-tempo style of play, the Jackson's intentional triangle pass executed to perfection has.
Lakers owner Jerry and Jim Buss curious chose D ' Antoni Brown about Jackson, to replace, who strongly considered a return for a third term on the Los Angeles bench. In March, Jackson was the President of the Knicks.
