SANTA PAULA, California (AP)--what should a cheap bite in del Taco proved to be as a small fortune for some Southern California customers.
About 150 people who ordered this week when the Mexican style fast-food chain in Santa Paula, 65 miles northwest of Los Angeles, were charged thousands of dollars for burritos, tacos and soft drinks incorrectly.
Customer Michael Cole said that he was surprised, as he $4,050 for a CrunchTada pizza and two beef tacos was calculated. He discovered the mistake Friday, when he tried to withdraw $20 from an ATM and was rejected.
"I don't think that I have spent so much in the last five years", said Cole.
The cause of the technical failure was unknown, but it affected ATM and credit card transactions a del Taco restaurant.
"The processor is on that situation contacted attentive and involved banks," said del Taco spokesperson Brian Devenny Ventura County Star (http://bit.ly/1i4Sqt8). "they work together to get these charges reversed as soon as possible."
Devenny said that all expenses will be reimbursed.
Another customer, Dino DeLaO, said his wife paid $10.20 for a meal and ended up $10.200 will be charged. DeLaO said the error caused his mortgage check to bounce, and he was afraid that it would affect other bills.
Austin Dillon said it was not difficult to clear the charge. He bought $4.26 value of food earlier this week, which turned out to $4.260.
"It's kinda obvious because it was del Taco", he said.
Like Cole, who was billed $4,050, he provides the food and service still at his local del Taco.
"It's not about to put me off from the come back", he said. "I will use probably from now on money."
